Can real strategy games work on a phone?
The old worry with mobile strategy was that small screens ruin it. Having played a lot of these games recently, I think the answer is: it depends entirely on scope.
Games that trim the unit count and keep battles short, like the squad-based ones we cover, work great. You can read the whole board, plan a turn, and put the phone away. Sprawling grand-strategy ports tend to struggle, with tiny buttons and menus buried three taps deep.
The best mobile strategy games design around the phone instead of shrinking a PC game onto it. Clear range indicators, an undo before you commit a move, and battles you can finish in one sitting all make a huge difference.
So yes, real strategy works here, as long as the developers respect the format. When they don't, it's obvious within the first mission.
