Nacho Casinacho: what the arcade game gets right

I almost skipped Nacho Casinacho because of the name. That would have been a mistake. Underneath the loud title is a well-made arcade game that's all about timing, matching and keeping a combo running for as long as you can.

The controls carry the whole thing. You play with one thumb: tap to grab a tile, swipe to slide a row, long press to stash a piece for a better moment. It took me a couple of levels to trust it, and after that I stopped thinking about the buttons entirely, which is the highest praise I can give a mobile game.

My biggest tip is to stop chasing every match. The scoring rewards long chains, so it's often smarter to set up a big clear than to grab the easy point in front of you. Once I started planning two moves ahead, my scores roughly doubled.

There's a soft spot in the middle of the campaign where the layouts repeat, and I'd have liked more variety there. But the harder levels near the end are excellent, and the short length means there's no filler dragging it out. If you like quick arcade sessions, give it a look.
